Robert’s* Story
“St Mary’s House of Welcome is not only a safe place to be, it’s a refuge from the biting cold. It is a place to sit down and talk with people who care… A place where you are welcomed and included as part of a community.”
Robert* is a regular here at St Mary’s House of Welcome. He’s usually one of the first in line as we open the doors for breakfast each morning. He will often stop to say hello before heading in for a hot shower, always sure to say thank you for the support he receives here.
Robert sleeps in his car now. It’s cold, but he says he will never forget what it’s like sleeping rough in Winter – “something you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.”
“It gets so cold it hurts to breathe. Everything gets wet and you can’t get warm no matter what you do. The cold just goes through to your bones.”

How your Winter Appeal gift will help:
$55 will help provide an emergency food hamper to a person sleeping rough;
$35 will help provide emergency material aid items such as warm clothing, underwear, socks;
$125 will help provide essential medications and health supplies to support the wellbeing of 10 people experiencing chronic homelessness;
$250 will help provide social inclusion group activities for a week;
$500 will help fund our Welcome Relief Meals Program for a day.
